Ivorian Ligue 1: ASEC Mimosas lose to Yamoussoukro FC in their opener

The defending champions of the Ivorian professional league got off to a poor start against the newly promoted side at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

ASEC Mimosas began the new Ligue 1 season with a defeat. The reigning champions were away at Yamoussoukro on Saturday 26 September. But the Mimos faltered in this first match of the 2026–2027 season.

The first half was marked by 30 minutes of nail-biting action. The home side then broke the deadlock to take the lead. Doumbia Mory opened the scoring for Yamoussoukro FC in the 31st minute, making it 1-0.

Both teams went into the break with the home side holding a narrow lead. After the break, ASEC Mimosas tried everything to get back into the game. But Yamoussoukro FC gave the visitors no chance. The Ligue 1 newcomers repelled all the attacks from the reigning Ivorian Ligue 1 champions.

At the final whistle, ASEC Mimosas lost their first match of the 2026–2027 season. A poor start for the Abidjan club against the newly promoted side from Yamoussoukro.
