It's not that simple. Benfica files complaint against Prestianni's suspension. The Argentine still has a chance to play on Wednesday

Benfica's situation ahead of the second leg is, to put it mildly, unenviable.

Details: Today, it was announced that UEFA has decided to suspend Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni for the Champions League playoff second leg against Real Madrid, which is set to take place this Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu.

However, Benfica was quick to respond. The "Lisbon Eagles" management has filed an official complaint with UEFA, insisting that Prestianni's suspension is unlawful since a final verdict following the investigation has not yet been delivered.

"Sport Lisboa e Benfica football club has been informed of UEFA's decision to impose a provisional one-match suspension on player Gianluca Prestianni as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident that occurred during the match against Real Madrid.

The club regrets losing the player while the investigation is still ongoing and intends to appeal UEFA's decision, even though the indicated timing is unlikely to have any practical impact on the second leg of the Champions League playoff.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica football club also reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combating all forms of racism and discrimination—values which are part of its historical identity and reflected in its daily activities, its global community, the work of the Benfica Foundation, and the legacy of such outstanding figures in the club's history as Eusébio." Benfica stated in their official release.

This season, Prestianni has played 30 matches for Benfica, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists.
