Italy preparing a football revolution after World Cup qualifying failure. What changes are planned?
Italy failed to come through qualification for the 2026 World Cup, crashing out against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and sweeping changes are now being prepared.
Details: According to Sky Sports, a major footballing overhaul is being planned in Italy. To begin with, a meeting has been scheduled involving officials from all levels of Italian football, including coaches and players across every category.
In addition, a full-scale reform of the Italian Football Federation is on the agenda, including the removal of the entire leadership, up to and including the president. The situation has escalated to such an extent that it is now being discussed with the country’s Minister of Sport.
We previously reported that Gennaro Gattuso will not remain in charge of the national team. He intends to step down following the defeat to Bosnia in the penalty shootout.
Reminder: Italy will miss the World Cup for the third consecutive time, having also failed to qualify for the 2018 and 2022 editions, and now the 2026 tournament as well.
