The undisputed world champion in two weight categories, Naoya Inoue from Japan, has arranged a title defense in the super bantamweight division. His opponent will be the Mexican, Luis Nery, the mandatory contender for the WBC belt in this weight class.

According to ESPN, both parties have agreed to hold the fight in May 2024 in Japan.

Interestingly, in 2018, Nery received a lifetime ban from boxing in Japan due to using the prohibited substance zilpaterol during his preparations for bouts against Shinsuke Yamanaka. However, it is expected that the Mexican's disqualification will soon be overturned, allowing him to compete in Japan.

Earlier, Inoue was recognized as the best boxer of 2023 by The Ring. In December, the Japanese fighter knocked out the Filipino Marlon Tapales, becoming the undisputed champion in the super bantamweight division.

Following his victory over Tapales, Inoue became only the second boxer in history to hold undisputed titles simultaneously in two weight classes. In 2022, Inoue became the bantamweight champion.

In February 2023, Nery knocked out Azat Hovhannisyan in the 11th round, earning his mandatory challenger status for the WBC belt.
