It hadn't happened in more than three years! Arsenal suffer first defeat of the season
Brighton handed Arsenal their first heavy Premier League defeat in more than three years. In the fifth round of Premier League fixtures, the reigning English champions suffered a shock 0-3 loss, ending their perfect start to the season. Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés were on target.
The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute. Kostoulas provided the assist for Gross, who found the back of the Arsenal net to put the hosts ahead. The Greek forward continued to make a major impact on Brighton's performance—he was also the man behind the second goal.
After the break, Brighton continued to control the game and turned their advantage into a rout. New Seagulls signing Chema Andrés also got his name on the scoresheet, while Arsenal failed to respond with a single goal.

What made the victory especially notable was Arsenal's record. For the first time since May 14, 2023, the London club had lost a Premier League match by at least three goals. On that occasion, Mikel Arteta's side also suffered a 0-3 defeat to Brighton. More than three years passed between the two losses.
