Ismail Jakobs highlights Senegal’s determination ahead of the decisive match against Iraq
After two defeats in their first two group stage matches, the left-back insists that the Lions of Teranga are focused on securing a place in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
Senegal cannot afford any more slip-ups against Iraq this Friday, 26 June, on the final day of the group stage. The Lions of Teranga must win if they are to have any hope of continuing their campaign in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
But ahead of Friday’s match at 7 pm GMT, Ismail Jakobs emphasised the calm atmosphere within the squad. According to him, Senegal are approaching this match with greater confidence and a determination to demonstrate their true potential.
“We’ve regrouped and we’re going to give it our all to win this final group match and secure qualification in style. We’re approaching this match with a great deal of composure, confidence and the desire to show what we’re really made of. The whole squad is ready to get the job done tomorrow.”
