Jesus explained that he and Ronaldo had discussed the forward's workload for Portugal's four-match UEFA Nations League window in advance. According to the coach, the initial plan was for Ronaldo to play the first and last fixtures while sitting out the two matches in the middle — away to Norway and Denmark.
The issue attracted particular attention after Ronaldo remained an unused substitute throughout Portugal's 2-1 victory over Norway. Jesus has now stressed that there is no conflict surrounding his captain and that the decision not to use him was agreed beforehand.
