The Denmark striker has openly explained the reasons behind his much-discussed gesture after the match in Copenhagen.

Details: Denmark forward Rasmus Hojlund has publicly explained why he celebrated his goal against Portugal in a Nations League match with Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark gesture.

The Danish footballer stressed that he performed the famous celebration solely as a sign of support and boundless respect for the legendary Portuguese star after all the turmoil he had faced with the national team. According to the forward, the gesture contained no hidden negativity toward the opposing side and was instead a heartfelt tribute to the player who had been his biggest childhood idol.

Hojlund’s actions attracted even more attention because, immediately after the final whistle, the Dane approached Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus and tapped him on the chest several times. Fans interpreted the gesture as a direct reproach aimed at the manager, who had left the 41-year-old goalscorer out of the starting lineup and triggered his premature departure from the national team camp.

It is worth noting that Rasmus Hojlund has repeatedly spoken of his sincere admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo. In spring 2025, he had already celebrated a goal against Portugal at Parken Stadium with the star’s famous jumping turn celebration.
