Betrayed behind closed doors! New details emerge in Ronaldo scandal
For Cristiano Ronaldo, this was no longer just another disagreement with a coach — it became a question of trust.
Details: According to Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, Ronaldo left a private conversation with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus believing the coach had acknowledged his mistake. Aguirre reports that Jesus apologised directly to Cristiano and promised that he would also apologise publicly during his press conference. However, that public apology never came.
Aguirre claims that this was the key reason Ronaldo felt betrayed and disrespected. The Portuguese captain reportedly believed Jesus had tried to present the situation differently in front of the media and to make himself look clever after giving Cristiano a completely different message behind closed doors.
The report adds another layer to an already escalating dispute. Ronaldo left Portugal's camp in Copenhagen after several days of tension surrounding his role in the national team. The Portuguese Football Federation subsequently confirmed that the 41-year-old captain had departed, while the rest of the squad continued preparing for the UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
Jesus had publicly played down the existence of a serious conflict and said that his earlier conversation with Ronaldo had effectively settled the situation. Aguirre's account presents a very different version of what happened privately, although neither Ronaldo nor the Portuguese Football Federation has publicly confirmed the alleged promise of an apology. It is worth noting that UEFA currently lists Ronaldo as the all-time record holder in men's international football with 234 appearances and 146 goals for Portugal.
