Is ter Stegen no longer being counted on? Barcelona want to sign the Euro 2024 star
This past weekend, Barcelona suffered a significant blow as captain and starting goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a severe injury. In recent days, there has been intense speculation about how the club plans to address this situation. Today, a new option has emerged.
Details: According to Fernando Polo, Barcelona may indeed sign a goalkeeper this fall, targeting free agents. The priority is Wojciech Szczęsny, who is reportedly willing to come out of retirement for the opportunity to play for Barcelona. Another option being considered is former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
However, Barcelona reportedly doubts whether Ter Stegen will be able to return to his previous form or avoid injuries in the future. As a result, the club is eyeing a long-term solution for the summer of 2025, with plans to pursue Porto and Portugal national team goalkeeper Diego Costa.
Barcelona is said to have high regard for Costa's talent, and the club's sporting director, Deco, enjoys a strong relationship with Porto. The goalkeeper himself is reportedly keen to take the next step in his career after this season concludes.
Reminder: Earlier reports suggested that Barcelona could also consider signing Alex Vallejo from Las Palmas, Stole Dimitrievski from Valencia, or Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes during the winter transfer window.
