Introduction of Semi-Automated Offside Detection in the Premier League Delayed Again
The English Premier League is planning to implement semi-automated offside detection in matches, but this innovation has been delayed once more.
Details: According to journalist Martyn Ziegler from The Times, the new system will not be introduced at the end of the 2024/25 season as previously intended. The launch has been postponed to at least the beginning of the following season. However, testing of the system's effectiveness is ongoing.
The delay is likely due to the Premier League's preference for using a different offside detection system than the one currently employed by FIFA and UEFA.
In related news, FIFA plans to introduce changes to football rules, including the implementation of the Football Video Support (FVS) system. This will allow coaches to submit up to two challenges per match.
Reminder: FIFA recently announced the date and location for the draw of the 2025 Club World Cup.
