Instead of Guardiola. Manchester City have identified Xabi Alonso as a candidate for the manager’s job

Xabi Alonso has been dismissed from Real Madrid and is currently without a job, but there is a possibility that he could take over a top club in England.

Details: According to insider Matt Law, Manchester City’s hierarchy are currently considering the Spanish coach as a potential head coach should Pep Guardiola decide to step down from his position. Xabi Alonso is one of three candidates for the role. There is also a growing feeling inside the club that Guardiola could indeed leave City.

After 24 matches, the Citizens sit second in the league table, trailing Arsenal by six points. In the next round, Manchester City will face Liverpool, but before that they have a Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle.

Reminder: Manchester City failed to hold on to their advantage against Tottenham, despite leading 2–0 at half-time. After the match, Josep Guardiola addressed the incident, subtly hinting at a refereeing error.
