INJURY BLOW! Arthur Zwane on AmaZulu goalkeeping crisis: We are probably the only team in the PSL which has used its all goalkeepers this season
Darren Johnson’s hopes of making it to the World Cup have been shattered.
The AmaZulu goalkeeper is out of football for the next six months as revealed by his coach Arthur Zwane.
Johnson had hopes of making it to the Bafana Bafana World Cup squad as Hugo Broos mentioned he has his eyes on him.
Broos also mentioned Johnson in one of the Preliminary squads he called up for the national sides in previous camps and that gave the goalkeeper some hope of fighting for a place in the World Cup squad.
But that dream is not out of the window.
“He’s gonna be out for probably six months, at most,” Zwane said.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach said Johnson’s absence is hurting their plans to finish strong in the Betway Premiership.
“We’re probably the only team that has used all its goalkeepers, this season,” he added.
“Should anything happen to Olwethu. We have Ofori, we would then have no backup.
“We would have to rely on the DDC goalkeepers. The question is, are they ready for [top-flight football]?.
“These are unforeseen circumstances and you don’t have to complain. You have to carry on, come out with solutions.”
