Infantino faces an unexpected challenge! Legendary coach urged to run for FIFA presidency
Legendary French coach Arsène Wenger could become Gianni Infantino’s main rival in the battle to lead world football.
Details: According to The Touchline, influential figures in the sporting community and fans are strongly urging the former Arsenal manager to put himself forward for the presidency of the International Federation of Association Football.
The initiative is gaining momentum amid widespread public discontent among fans over the policies of current FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Until recently, it appeared that the Swiss official would face no opposition in the upcoming election, but the public demand for an alternative candidate could change the balance of power.
Wenger already has experience at the highest levels of football administration, having served as FIFA’s chief of global football development. The Frenchman’s immense international standing and impeccable reputation are viewed by supporters of change as the ideal counterweight to the current leadership.
The coach himself has yet to make any official statement about his plans, but calls for him to run are growing rapidly.
It is worth noting that Arsène Wenger managed London club Arsenal for 22 years, from 1996 to 2018, winning the English league title three times and lifting the FA Cup seven times. Since November 2019, the French coach has worked in FIFA’s executive structure.
