Another scandal surrounding Infantino: FIFA chief’s secret millions come to light
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has found himself at the center of a major financial investigation.
Details: According to an investigation by the respected British newspaper The Times, FIFA failed to disclose information about regular secret payments made to its leader.
According to the source, the Swiss official received millions in additional undisclosed payments on top of his official salary. The funds were reportedly intended to finance Infantino’s luxurious lifestyle in Miami, where football’s governing body established a major operations center ahead of the World Cup.
Journalists sent FIFA an official request demanding an explanation of the origin and legality of the hidden payments made to its president. However, football authorities have yet to provide a comprehensive response.
The new allegations could trigger another wave of a crisis of confidence in the upper echelons of football’s governing body, which has repeatedly pledged a firm commitment to financial transparency.
It is worth noting that Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA president since February 2016, replacing Sepp Blatter, who resigned from the post. According to the organization’s official reports, the head of world football earned a basic annual income of around €3.6 million before bonuses.
