Aston Villa have pulled off one of the most eye-catching deals of the summer.

Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with German midfielder Leon Goretzka. The 31-year-old gave his approval to the Birmingham club's project after a direct conversation with head coach Unai Emery.

The parties have already given each other the verbal green light, while Aston Villa are now preparing the final stages of the transfer. The club plans to arrange Goretzka's medical examination and contract signing during the upcoming week, with the necessary documents reportedly ready.

Goretzka is available on a free transfer after his contract with Bayern Munich expired at the end of June. The midfielder spent eight seasons in Munich before becoming a free agent on July 1, meaning Aston Villa will not have to pay a transfer fee for the Germany international.

The move will also give Goretzka his first experience in English football. During his long spell with Bayern, the midfielder became one of the club's most experienced players and won numerous major trophies, including the Champions League.

It is worth noting that Goretzka made 48 appearances for Bayern in the 2025/26 season, scoring five goals and providing five assists. Transfermarkt currently values the German midfielder at €12 million.

Reminder: Bayern star on the verge of moving to Aston Villa!
