He won the Olympics, the Copa America and the World Cup. Di Maria retires from the national team

The Copa America final match against Colombia, held on the night of Monday, July 15, marked Ángel Di María's last appearance in the Argentina jersey.
In 2007, Di María was called up to the Argentina youth team for the South American Youth Championship in Paraguay. That same year, he also participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, scoring three goals and helping Argentina secure the championship.
A year later, Di María was selected for the Olympic team to compete in the Beijing Summer Olympics. The Argentinians won gold medals, with Ángel scoring two decisive goals in the knockout stages—one in the quarterfinals and another in the final. On September 6, 2008, he debuted for the senior Argentina national team in a match against Paraguay.
Overall, Ángel Di María became known for scoring crucial goals in final matches. As mentioned earlier, this happened at the 2008 Olympics, and he also scored in the Copa America 2021 final, leading Argentina to a 1-0 victory. Additionally, he scored in the Finalissima, where the Albiceleste triumphed 3-0.
On December 18, 2022, in the World Cup final in Qatar, he scored against France and was substituted in the 64th minute. Argentina won the match in a penalty shootout, and Di María became a world champion.
In the Copa America 2024 final, Di María did not score, but his team still secured a 1-0 victory in overtime. After the match, he stated that he had dreamed of ending his international career in this manner.
"It was meant to be, it was destined to happen. I dreamed of this. I dreamed that I would play in the final, win it, and end my career in the national team this way. I have so many wonderful feelings, and I am infinitely grateful to the current generation of players. Today, I leave with a title," Ángel shared.
In his career, he scored 30 goals and provided 21 assists in 144 matches. During this time, he won four trophies: the 2022 World Cup, the 2022 Finalissima, and the Copa America twice—in 2021 and 2024.
It is also worth noting that German legend Thomas Müller decided to retire from international football after the 2024 European Championship.
