At the time, Infantino declared the World Cup in Qatar was brilliant and safe:
"For the first time in history, not a single Brit was arrested during the World Cup. Just imagine. That's truly something special," Gianni said.
This remark immediately sparked a wave of outrage among British fans, who suggested Infantino would do better to offer affordable tickets for the World Cup in the USA rather than make such comments.
Later, Infantino stated that he is "a huge admirer of English football culture," insisting he meant no offense and was wrong to suggest British supporters are only known for causing trouble.
Reminder: On the verge of boycott: The 2026 World Cup in the USA may go ahead without European teams
