Gianluigi Buffon becomes sports director of the Italian national team

Former Juventus, Parma and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been promoted to the national team.

According to Calciomercato.it, he was previously the head of the delegation and had no explicit authority, now Buffon will be the sporting director of the Italian national and youth teams. As a reminder, Gianluigi was appointed to the Italian national team in 2023 after his professional career.

We previously wrote that Buffon expressed doubts about his future with the Italian Football Federation after the departure of the Cuadra Azzurri from Euro 2024. The legendary goalkeeper did not hide his disappointment with Italy's performance at the tournament and believes that ‘everyone is to blame for the failure’.

By the way, Italy has decided to keep Luciano Spalletti as its head coach. He will prepare the team for the UEFA Nations League.
