After a two-day break, the 2024 European Championship returns to fans, with the first playoff matches kicking off today. Supporters can look forward to two round of 16 games, one of which features the hosts, Germany, taking on their neighbors, Denmark.

Germany exhibited quite inconsistent results during their tournament preparations, attracting a storm of criticism and leading to a change of coach. However, from the opening match, Die Mannschaft proved their quality by thrashing Scotland 5-1 in the tournament opener. This was followed by a convincing 2-0 victory over Hungary, and in their final group game, they secured a 1-1 draw against Switzerland.

Denmark finished second in their group, trailing the tournament favorites, England. The Danes collected three points through draws with each of their opponents. Both Slovenia and England scored one goal each against Denmark, while the final match against Serbia ended goalless.

Ahead of the match, Germany's head coach stated that they have learned all the necessary lessons from their previous matches and made the required adjustments.

“The group stage was very insightful for us. We started with a game that turned out easier than expected, then had a more challenging game with Hungary, and a tough match with Switzerland. We faced different situations. It’s crucial for the team to learn how to handle difficulties and various scenarios.”

Meanwhile, Denmark's head coach, Kasper Hjulmand, praised their upcoming opponents.

“Germany has experienced players paired with young talents who excel. Gündoğan covers an incredible amount of space and links attack and defense. They started remarkably well and are among the best performers in this tournament.”

Both teams are undoubtedly focused on victory. Germany aims to delight their home fans at the Euro, while Denmark seeks to surpass their achievement from the previous tournament, where they reached the semifinals.

Coaches are likely to field their strongest players, and the Dailysports team has prepared probable starting line-ups based on previous coaching decisions.
