From 2-0 to 2-3 — and then disaster! Viking stun Bayern in a six-goal Champions League thriller
Bayern Munich thought they had completed an incredible comeback in Norway, but Viking had one final surprise waiting.
Details: The German giants were held to a sensational 3-3 draw by Norwegian champions Viking in the second round of the Champions League league phase. The hosts made a dream start in Stavanger, with Gianni Stensness opening the scoring after just two minutes. Peter Christiansen doubled the advantage in the 38th minute, sending Bayern into the break trailing 2-0.
After halftime, Vincent Kompany's men produced a remarkable response. Harry Kane pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 54th minute before completing his double just six minutes later. In the 71st minute, Luis Díaz scored to put Bayern ahead 3-2, seemingly completing an extraordinary turnaround.
However, the match took another dramatic turn in the 74th minute when Michael Olise received a second yellow card, leaving Bayern with ten men. Viking seized their opportunity and refused to surrender. In the 90th minute, substitute Herman Haugen struck the equaliser, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations and securing an unforgettable 3-3 draw.
The result gives Viking their first point of this Champions League campaign after losing 3-1 to Stuttgart in the opening round. Bayern, meanwhile, drop points despite having started the tournament with a commanding 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt. It is worth noting that Viking won the Norwegian championship last season for the first time since 1991.
