Champions League shock! Viking stun Bayern with sensational 2-0 lead
Bayern Munich are living through an absolute Champions League nightmare in Norway.
Details: A stunning upset is unfolding in the second round of the Champions League league phase, where Norwegian champions Viking have taken a sensational 2-0 lead against Bayern Munich. The hosts struck their first blow after just two minutes, when defender Gianni Stensness opened the scoring following an assist from Zlatko Tripić. Viking have since doubled their advantage, leaving Vincent Kompany's team in serious trouble.
The scoreline is particularly remarkable considering how the two teams started their European campaigns. Bayern demolished another Norwegian side, Bodø/Glimt, 5-0 in their opening match, while Viking suffered a 3-1 defeat against Stuttgart.
Remarkably, this is already Bayern's second consecutive match featuring a disastrous start. On October 10, Augsburg scored against the Munich giants after just eight seconds following a costly mistake by Manuel Neuer. That Bundesliga encounter eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.
This time, however, the situation is even more alarming for Kompany's men. Instead of recovering from an early setback, Bayern have found themselves two goals behind against a team widely considered one of the biggest underdogs in the competition. The match is still in progress.
It's worth noting that Viking won the Norwegian championship last season for the first time since 1991. Stensness' opening strike was also the first goal Bayern conceded in the 2026/27 Champions League campaign.
