Former France international and West Ham player Dimitri Payet retires
French footballer Dimitri Payet enjoyed many seasons with Marseille, featured for West Ham, and represented the national team, but his career has now come to an end.
Details: As the player himself announced, he has decided to retire from professional football. The moment came during the match between Marseille and Lille.
The 38-year-old made 782 appearances over the course of his career, scoring 158 goals and providing 205 assists.
In 2010, Laurent Blanc handed him his first call-up to the national team. He made his international debut on October 9, 2010, in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Romania, coming on as a substitute.
With the French national team, he reached the final of Euro 2016, after which he was named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament.
Reminder: French forward Antoine Griezmann has also enjoyed many outstanding seasons with Atlético Madrid and in Spain, but his time at the club is nearing its conclusion.
