Football or swimming? Santos star washes his face in a puddle during bizarre Brazilian match
Brazilian football has produced one of the most bizarre scenes of the season! During Santos' rain-soaked encounter with Bahia, a player was filmed washing his face in a massive puddle on the pitch, leaving supporters stunned by the extraordinary conditions.
Details: The unusual moment occurred during Santos' 1-1 draw with Bahia on October 24 at Vila Belmiro. Heavy rain flooded the playing surface, creating enormous puddles that made normal football almost impossible. Footage shared by Polymarket Sports shows a Santos player kneeling on the soaked grass and repeatedly splashing water onto his face. The clip quickly attracted attention online, with fans joking that the match had turned into a swimming competition.
The downpour began midway through the first half and completely transformed the contest. The ball repeatedly stopped in standing water, preventing both teams from building attacks. Referee Sávio Pereira Sampaio discussed the possibility of suspending play, but the match continued despite the increasingly difficult conditions.
The weather even influenced the opening goal. Luciano Juba scored for Bahia after the ball stopped in a puddle near the penalty area. Santos then suffered another setback when Neymar was sent off following an altercation with Rodrigo Nestor. Nevertheless, Luan Peres rescued a dramatic point with a late header, securing a 1-1 draw for the ten-man hosts.
It's worth noting that Santos finished the 32nd round with 46 points, while Bahia reached 50. The terrible playing surface also drew criticism from Bahia coach Rogério Ceni, who argued that the rain had ruined the spectacle. Santos are scheduled to face Palmeiras on October 28, with concerns about the condition of Vila Belmiro's pitch continuing.
Reminder: Scandal! Just look at what Neymar was sent off for. VIDEO
