Last night, the Brazilian national team failed to overcome Costa Rica (0-0) in their first group stage match of Copa América 2024. This result was historic for the Costa Ricans.

It marked the first time since 1960 that Costa Rica did not lose to Brazil. Back then, Costa Rica surprisingly defeated an experimental Brazilian team 3-0 during the Pan American Games.

Since that match, Brazil had won nine consecutive games against Costa Rica. Their most recent encounter before this draw was at the 2018 World Cup, where Brazil won 2-0.

Overall, in the history of their head-to-head encounters, Brazil has scored 34 goals compared to Costa Rica's 9.

In the next round of Copa América, Costa Rica will face Colombia, who defeated Paraguay 2-1 last night.
