Finally! Tottenham score their first Premier League goal of the season — but there is a catch
Tottenham have finally broken their Premier League goal drought, but their long-awaited breakthrough has come in the middle of another difficult match.
Details: During their fifth Premier League match of the 2026/27 season, Tottenham finally managed to find the back of the net. Conor Gallagher scored in the 86th minute of the home encounter against Aston Villa, reducing the deficit to 1-3 and ending the London club's remarkable run without a league goal.
Roberto De Zerbi's side had failed to score in any of their opening four Premier League fixtures. Tottenham began the campaign with defeats against Brentford and Newcastle before recording consecutive goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton.
The fifth round initially brought more frustration for Spurs. Aston Villa opened the scoring through Johan Manzambi in first-half stoppage time, before Nicolas Jackson doubled the visitors' advantage in the 67th minute. Emiliano Buendía then made it 3-0 in the 79th minute.
However, Gallagher finally gave the home supporters something to celebrate late in the encounter. His strike ended Tottenham's scoring drought in the league, although the London side still trailed Aston Villa by two goals.
It is worth noting that Gallagher also scored Tottenham's only goal in their 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup earlier this week. The English midfielder has now found the net in two consecutive matches across all competitions.
