Cristiano Ronaldo's story with Portugal may not be over after all.

Details: According to Portuguese journalist Miguel Pereira, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return to the Portugal national team in 2027 for one final chapter of his international career. Pereira says bridges are already being built between Ronaldo's representatives, Jorge Jesus' camp and the Portuguese Football Federation, despite the recent conflict that led the captain to leave the national-team camp.

Ronaldo's possible comeback would therefore mean that his sudden departure from the latest Portugal camp is not necessarily the end of his international career. Separate reporting from A Bola has also indicated that the federation is trying to mediate between the two sides, while Jorge Jesus has agreed to take part in a proposed meeting with the veteran forward.

Another major factor is Ronaldo's pursuit of the 1,000-goal milestone. Pereira claims the 41-year-old remains determined to reach the landmark and would particularly like to score his 1,000th career goal while wearing the Portugal shirt. That ambition could become an important motivation for a reconciliation and one last return to the national team.

It is worth noting that UEFA currently lists Ronaldo as the all-time record holder in men's international football with 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal. According to talkSPORT, he currently stands at 979 senior career goals.
