The controversy erupted after France secured a 1-0 win over Paraguay in the Round of 16. Following the match, Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla reportedly posted racist remarks targeting Mbappé on social media.

The France captain responded publicly, describing Amarilla as a "despicable woman" and stating that her openly racist comments were unworthy of someone holding public office.

Reacting to the incident, George Weah expressed the panel's full support for the French forward while calling for stronger action against discrimination in football.
