Former Finnish national hockey player Janne Puhakka found dead in his mansion, preliminary investigation points to murder.

Details: According to Ilta-Sanom, the murder occurred on the evening of October 13 in the home shared by the former hockey player, aged 29, and his partner, 66-year-old Norwegian veterinarian Rolf Nordmo. Sources suggest that Nordmo is suspected of having shot Puhakka in the apartment.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police reportedly have a solid understanding of the sequence of events.

Quote: "We have a fairly clear picture of what transpired. However, we are still in the suspicion phase, and the investigation is ongoing. The police believe the act was particularly brutal and violent.

In addition, we suspect the killer was fully aware of their actions. The manner in which the crime was carried out appears especially cruel," said crime commissioner and lead investigator Matti Höegman, as quoted by Ilta-Sanom.

Reminder: Puhakka ended his professional hockey career after the 2017–2018 season, with his final club being Gap, a top-tier team in France.

Puhakka made headlines as the first Finnish male hockey player to openly come out as homosexual. After retiring from the sport, he publicly discussed his non-traditional sexual orientation.
