Hockey player Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets has passed away
The Columbus Blue Jackets' hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother have tragically passed away in a car accident. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed the news.
"The National Hockey League family is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew.
While Johnny's infectious love for the game and remarkable skill on the ice earned him the nickname 'Johnny Hockey,' he was more than just a brilliant hockey player; he was a caring father, a beloved husband, son, brother, and teammate who touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him," stated the NHL Commissioner.
Earlier reports on Friday morning indicated that two cyclists were killed in a collision with a vehicle in New Jersey. Preliminary information suggested that the victims were Gaudreau and his brother Matthew.
Unfortunately, the information has now been officially confirmed.
In the previous season, Gaudreau played 81 games, scoring 12 goals and making 48 assists. Representing the USA at the 2024 World Championship, Johnny played eight matches, recording 11 points (3 goals + 8 assists).
