Even the wedding can wait! Neymar makes a promise ahead of Messi's farewell
Neymar is determined to be there for the final international chapter of Lionel Messi's legendary career.
Details: Neymar Jr. has made an emotional promise ahead of Lionel Messi's farewell match with Argentina. The Brazilian declared that even an event as important as his own wedding would not stop him from attending:
“I can miss my wedding if need be, but one thing I will never miss is Lionel Messi's farewell game. See you on October 6th.”
Messi's farewell appearance is scheduled for October 6, when Argentina host Benin in a friendly at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. The Argentine Football Association invited the legendary captain back for one final appearance after he announced his international retirement.
Neymar and Messi know each other extremely well after sharing the dressing room at both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Their reunion on such an emotional evening would therefore add another special element to a match already set to become one of the defining moments in recent Argentine football history.
It is worth noting that Messi enters his farewell with a record 207 appearances and 125 goals for Argentina. The match against Benin is set to become his 208th and final international appearance, closing a national-team career highlighted by the 2022 World Cup title and Copa América triumphs in 2021 and 2024.
Reminder: Not even for the king! FIFA rules block Argentina from retiring Messi's No.10 shirt
