Eric Tinkler on his Sekhukhune United's chances of finishing in the top three: It is sill possible even though our season has turned out difficult
Eric Tinkler is an eternal optimist.
The Sekhukhune United coach said his team can still finish in the top three in the Betway Premiership.
This is despite the fact that they are winless in the past five PSL matches.
The latest result to dent their top three push is Monday’s 2-2 against AmaZulu in Kwa-Zulu Natal where they had to come back from a goal down for both their goals.
As a consequence, they are now fifth on the PSL standings which is a huge downgrade as they flirted with second and third spot earlier this season.
“Second half of the season hasn’t been good, be at home or away,” said Tinkler.
“We also lost quite a few key players, very important players due to long term injuries.
“A lot of new faces coming in after the CAF break. Still having to reach the level of conditioning that is required because they weren’t regulars where they were playing.
“Second half of the season, truth be told, we haven’t been good enough. I take responsibility for that as the head coach. Gotta find ways to win football matches and we didn’t do that. Be at home or away.
“What’s important now is how we finish. We still got seven games left. And potentially we can still reach our objectives. Top three, that’s been the objective. Still possible.”
Tomorrow they host Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in a PSL game which starts at 5.30pm.
