Enrico Pepe's own goal, followed by Harry Kane's goal in the second half, secured England three points in yesterday's match at Wembley against the Maltese national team, marking Gareth Southgate's team's fourth consecutive victory.

The Three Lions have not lost any of their seven Euro 2024 qualifying matches, winning six of them. England has already secured a spot in the tournament in Germany next year. However, Southgate feels that his team should have performed better against the Maltese team, which has lost all matches in Group C, expressing concerns about the team's state ahead of the tournament.

Gareth Southgate's words are reported by the BBC.

"We didn't reach the heights we've been able to this year. When you've played well, it's very difficult to reach those heights, and we didn't do that. We know our level should be better. We could have had three or four goal-scoring moments, but we didn't create them enough, but in any case, we deserved this victory."

"We had a lot of players who weren't on the field. I think Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Phil [Foden], and Marc Guehi were good, and Cole Palmer's debut had a positive impact. We had moments, but we know we weren't in the form we can be," Southgate added.

At present in Group C, it's confirmed that the England national team has secured a place in Euro 2024, while North Macedonia and Malta won't be able to qualify for the final phase. The final spot will be contested between the national teams of Ukraine and Italy on Monday.
