Eddie Howe one step away from a new record! The Newcastle manager matches the achievement of English coaches in the Champions League
Newcastle's emphatic 6-1 demolition of Qarabag in the playoff match was not just a dazzling spectacle, but also a significant milestone for the Magpies' head coach, Eddie Howe.
Details: This victory marked Howe's fifth win in the current 2025/26 Champions League campaign. With this result, Howe has equaled the national record for the most wins in a single campaign by an English manager.
At this moment, Eddie Howe shares the top spot with two other outstanding managers. Previously, only the legendary Sir Bobby Robson in the 2002/03 season (also with Newcastle) and Graham Potter in the 2022/23 season (with Chelsea) reached five wins in a single campaign.
Given that Newcastle has all but secured a place in the next round with the 6-1 scoreline, Howe will have at least three more opportunities to set a new all-time record.
Reminder: Newcastle became only the second team ever to lead by five goals at half-time.
