In the UEFA Champions League play-off clash, Newcastle travelled away to Qarabag, where they produced a goal-laden spectacle and equalled a unique record.
Details: The Magpies struck five times in the first half to storm into a commanding 5–0 lead. According to Opta, Newcastle became only the second team in history to hold a five-goal advantage at half-time in a Champions League play-off match. The previous side to achieve the feat were Bayern, who also led Porto 5–0 at the interval.
Additionally, Anthony Gordon became just the second player in UEFA Champions League history to score four goals in the first half of a single match.
