Durban City part ways with Technical Director Ernst Middendorp

Ernst Middendorp has left Durban City as the club’s Technical Director.

The German’s departure from the Betway Premiership side would put to bed speculation that the former Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town Spurs coach is waiting to appointed coach in Durban.

Since he arrived at the PSL side, Middendorp has seen the club lose coaches in Gavin Hunt and Sinethemba Badela.

Hunt’s departure was centred around him differing in opinion with Middendorp.

Now the PSL side confirmed the German-born coach has left their base.

“Durban City FC confirms that Technical Director Ernst Middendorp has completed his short-term contract with the club, having fulfilled the specific mandate for which he was engaged,” said the club.

“Middendorp rejoined Durban City FC on 15 December 2025. His brief focused on stabilising and strengthening the club’s technical structures during a period of transition, and that mandate has now been brought to its planned conclusion.

“The club thanks Ernst Middendorp for his professionalism and commitment during his time with us and wishes him success in his future endeavours.”
