Details: Paris Saint-Germain secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Marseille in the fifth round of Ligue 1. The match took place at the Stade Vélodrome on September 20, with all three goals arriving in a frantic eight-minute spell during the second half. Ferran Torres and Marquinhos found the net for the visitors, while Angel Gomes scored Marseille's only goal.
The first half ended goalless, but the game came alive after the break. Luis Enrique made a crucial substitution in the 59th minute, introducing Ferran Torres in place of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Just seven minutes later, the Spaniard opened the scoring. Désiré Doué delivered a cross into the penalty area, and Torres headed the ball past Marseille goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange to put PSG ahead.
However, the hosts refused to surrender. In the 72nd minute, Angel Gomes restored parity, giving the home supporters renewed hope. Marseille's joy was short-lived, though, as PSG captain Marquinhos responded just two minutes later, scoring in the 74th minute to restore the visitors' advantage.
The Parisians held on to their narrow lead and claimed their second consecutive Ligue 1 victory after beating Brest 1-0 in the previous round. The result also ended Marseille's hopes of securing a positive outcome from the latest edition of the French Classique.
It is worth noting that Ferran Torres has now scored seven goals in his first six appearances for PSG. The Spanish forward also netted the winning goal against Brest on September 13, finding the back of the net in the fifth minute of that encounter.
