Decided! Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool

Slot's managerial seat at Liverpool is hanging by a thread.

Details: According to BILD journalist Axel Hesse, Liverpool's current head coach Arne Slot is set to be dismissed soon, with 44-year-old Xabi Alonso lined up to take over.

Reports indicate that the Reds’ management are ready to part ways with Slot at the end of the season after Liverpool suffered a defeat to Brighton in their latest Premier League fixture.

According to sources, Liverpool's managing director Michael Edwards has maintained contact with Arne Slot for several seasons, and recently, the parties reached a verbal agreement that Alonso will take the reins at Liverpool after Slot’s departure.

Xabi Alonso’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, has also openly confirmed that Liverpool made official contact with his client and held certain negotiations, though Ibanez chose to keep the details of those talks under wraps.

Arne Slot took charge of Liverpool in the summer of 2024. Despite winning the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, the Reds have completely collapsed in the current campaign, languishing in 5th place after 31 rounds of the league.
