It is reported that Valcke and Deris were first convicted back in 2022 for the corrupt allocation of media rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups in countries such as Greece and Italy. At that time, Valcke received an 11-month suspended prison sentence. Valcke was also found guilty of accepting a bribe of €1.25 million and document forgery.
Such cases once again highlight the persistent problem of corruption at the highest levels of modern football.
Valcke also had a legal battle against PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, but lost for the third time, as the court once again sided with Al-Khelaifi, whom Valcke had accused of misconduct in the awarding of World Cup broadcasting rights for the Middle East and North Africa for 2026 and 2030.
