The former Ivorian international goalkeeper says he respects the young player’s decision.

Kais Barry’s decision to represent Morocco marked a turning point in his international career. Whilst he had the option of choosing the Ivorian national team, the defender, who currently plays for Anderlecht, ultimately decided to opt for the Atlas Lions.

The 20-year-old centre-back decided last September to represent Morocco. It was a personal decision which the former Elephants goalkeeper says he fully respects.

When asked about this decision, his father, Copa Barry, a former Ivorian international, was keen to emphasise that his son was free to choose which national team he wished to represent.

“He had to make up his mind about which national team to play for; he was spoilt for choice. He chose his own path, and we respect that.”

The 20-year-old centre-back is continuing to develop at Anderlecht. Kais Barry played for the Belgian youth teams before opting for Morocco, which he will now represent on the international stage.
