On the night of Tuesday, June 25, the first round of Copa América 2024 matches in Group D took place.

In the opening game, Colombia managed to edge out Paraguay with a 2-1 victory, as expected. The match's standout player was the legendary James Rodríguez, who currently plays in Brazil for São Paulo.

In the 32nd minute, after a cross from James on the left wing, Crystal Palace defender Daniel Muñoz scored with a header against Paraguay. Ten minutes later, another Crystal Palace player, Jefferson Lerma, scored from a James free-kick delivery.

After the break, Paraguay managed to pull one goal back. Brighton winger Julio Enciso successfully struck with a touch from a left-wing cross. However, Paraguay couldn't manage to equalize.

In the second match of the day, fans witnessed the first major upset of Copa América 2024.

The Brazilian national team, traditionally one of the tournament's main favorites, failed to overcome the modest Costa Rica team.

Dorival Júnior's team had 70% possession, took 19 shots on goal, and hit the target 7 times, but they couldn't find the back of the net. The match ended in a goalless draw, 0-0.

In the 2nd round, Colombia will face Costa Rica, while Brazil will clash with Paraguay.
