The Morocco national team edged out Tanzania in the Round of 16 clash at the Africa Cup of Nations, with the only goal coming from Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz.
However, the match could have easily gone to extra time. In the 90+4th minute, referee Boubou made a highly debatable call that instantly sparked heated debate. Morocco’s Adam Masina shoved Iddi Nado inside his own penalty area, but the referee’s whistle remained silent.
The Tanzanian players pleaded with the referee to consult VAR, but the official stood firm. Replays clearly showed a foul, yet Boubou apparently felt it wasn’t enough to warrant a penalty.
