Casric Stars dump Orlando Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup on penalties after the game ended 0-0 in regulation time at Orlando Amstel Arena
Casric Stars dumped Orlando Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup this evening to advance to the quarterfinals of this competition.
The game needed penalties to be settled as it ended goalless during regulation time.
The Mpumalanga-based side won 5-4 on penalties to seal their place in the quarterfinal draw to take place tomorrow.
Pirates had made themselves local football cup kings as they had already bagged the MTN8 and the Carling Cup this season.
This Nedbank Cup was a trophy they had set their sights on as they had planned winning a historical quadruple of trophies in a single campaign.
It was not to be at a packed Orlando Amstel Arena as the National First Division side, Casric Stars, condemned last season’s runners-up to a 5-4 defeat on penalties.
The loss of a giant in Orlando Pirates sees three powerful PSL sides to get knocked out of his competition as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are also out.
