CAF condemns incidents during Al Ahly – FAR Rabat Champions League match
The governing body of African football has announced that it has opened disciplinary proceedings to determine responsibility in accordance with regulatory provisions.
The incidents took place on Sunday 15 February 2026 at the Cairo International Stadium during the sixth round of the Champions League group stage match between Al Ahly and FAR Rabat. During the match, supporters of the Egyptian club threw water bottles onto the pitch.
Some players from the Moroccan club were hit by these bottles during the match. These events were deemed unacceptable by the Confederation of African Football, which responded with an official statement on Monday 16 February. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated by the CAF authorities, the statement said.
"The Confederation of African Football (CAF) strongly condemns the unacceptable incidents that occurred during the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League match between Al Ahly (Egypt) and ASFAR (Morocco), played in Cairo on Sunday 15 February 2026.
In accordance with its regulations, CAF has referred the case to the Disciplinary Board for investigation. Consequently, anyone found guilty will be subject to the sanctions provided for in the regulations."
