A crucial Copa del Rey qualifier descended into chaos before the football could even begin.

Details: The second leg between Atlético Unión Güímar and Sporting Hortaleza has been suspended following serious incidents before kick-off and growing tension inside the Tasagaya stadium. The Madrid club refused to leave the dressing room, claiming that the necessary conditions to guarantee the safety of its players and staff were not in place.

According to Cadena SER, Sporting Hortaleza alleged that members of their delegation had been confronted by masked individuals and threatened with knives. Shortly before the scheduled start, another confrontation reportedly broke out after a plastic bottle was thrown towards a visiting player, with footballers from both teams becoming involved.

Atlético Unión Güímar head coach Aythami Díaz, meanwhile, claimed that he had been physically assaulted by a member of the visiting staff. The situation became serious enough for the Guardia Civil and National Police to intervene, while the live broadcast of the game was eventually cancelled.

The Spanish football authorities must now decide what happens next. The possibilities reportedly include rescheduling the match, staging it at a neutral venue or, in an extreme scenario, awarding the tie to Sporting Hortaleza.

It is worth noting that Sporting Hortaleza won the first leg 1-0. The winner of the tie will advance to the first round of the Copa del Rey, where a meeting with a LaLiga club awaits.
