It looks like Álvarez is set to remain at Atlético Madrid for the foreseeable future.
Details: According to The Athletic, Barcelona officially submitted a transfer request to Atlético Madrid for the 25-year-old Argentine striker Julián Álvarez. However, the response from the "Colchoneros" left the Catalans stunned.
Reports indicate that Atlético replied to Barcelona suggesting that if they were so keen on Álvarez, perhaps the two clubs could also discuss Lamine Yamal moving to Atlético—making it clear that there would be no deal for the Argentine.
"Since we're on the topic, why don't we talk about Lamine Yamal as well?" Atlético representatives reportedly said.
After that, Barcelona dropped their pursuit of the Argentine forward.
Julián Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in the summer of 2024 for €75 million. The Argentine has made 76 appearances for Atlético, scoring 39 goals and providing 12 assists.
His current contract with the "Colchoneros" runs until 2030, and his market value is estimated at €100 million by Transfermarkt.
