Chelsea legend and African football icon Didier Drogba has publicly shown his support for Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal.
Details: In the wake of the recent racism scandal that erupted during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt in Barcelona, the Ivorian left a heartfelt comment under the 18-year-old winger’s Instagram post.
Drogba, who has been a vocal advocate against discrimination throughout his career, decided to personally encourage the player who has become the new hope for the Blaugrana.
“Always be proud of your culture and who you are, Lamine Yamal,” Drogba wrote.
This message was especially meaningful given Yamal’s heritage (his father is from Morocco, and his mother is from Equatorial Guinea). It’s worth noting that during the match against Egypt, Spanish fans chanted racist slurs targeting Muslims.
Reminder: Spain’s head coach De la Fuente was outraged by the racism witnessed during the match against Egypt, stating that such fans must be isolated from society.
