Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams admits being hurt social media attacks on him and his team-mates
Ronwen Williams is hurting.
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper expressed his sadness on the cyberbullying he has endured since Bafana's 2-0 loss to Mexico a week ago today at the Azteca Stadium.
“You know how difficult it is now that everyone is attacking you on social media,” Williams told journalists ahead of today's Group A clash against Czechia.
“Sometimes it’s false information. If you lose a game and you don’t perform, you can accept that as a player. But when there is false information circulating, that is what hurts.
“I have been targeted over the last few days for things I never even said. I have never spoken negatively about African people supporting Mexico.
“But that’s the powerful thing about sports; it can unite people, it can bring people together, or it can break you.”
It remains to be seen how the goalkeeper will perform this evening against the Czechs in Atlanta given how feels about the cyberattacks.
The match starts at 6pm South African time.
