Arteta explains the surprising substitution of Ødegaard for Nwaneri against Everton
Arsenal failed to secure a win against Everton in their home match during the 16th round of the Premier League. The Gunners were unable to break through the visitors' defense throughout the game (0:0).
Unexpecting moment was the substitution of team captain Martin Ødegaard, who was replaced by young Ethan Nwaneri in the 62nd minute.
According to head coach Mikel Arteta, the decision was purely tactical and not injury-related.
Quote: "An early substitution for Ødegaard? It was a tactical decision. No injuries or anything else.
But I understand how this works... If Ethan Nwaneri comes on and scores, it's a great substitution. If not, then people question why you take off your captain and all that. That’s football!" Arteta told Fabrizio Romano.
Reminder: After 16 rounds, Arsenal sits third in the Premier League table with 30 points.
