Arsenal could win appeal against Miles Lewis-Skelly ban
Arsenal midfielder Miles Lewis-Skelly will miss three games after receiving a straight red card against Wolves. However, former Premier League referee Mike Dean believes the club have every chance of successfully challenging the decision.
Lewis-Skelly was sent off by referee Michael Oliver after a hard foul on Wolves' defender Matt Doherty in the first half of the match. The referee's decision was confirmed by VAR under Darren England. If the appeal is not lodged or is unsuccessful, the player will miss important matches against Manchester City, Newcastle United and Leicester City.
Mike Dean told Sky Sports that the ban could be reviewed:
"I think they have grounds for an appeal. If you look at it from the perspective of former players and managers, I don't think they would agree that it was a red card. Arsenal have a good chance of winning."
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also hinted at a possible appeal, citing Manchester United's recent success:
"If anything, it's a really good precedent, like Bruno (Fernandes against Tottenham Hotspur, when Manchester United successfully appealed his suspension) this season. I hope for a similar outcome."
